Furniture Done Right is Inviting

June 12th, 2010

Years ago we decided to upgrade the size of our home and add a little property. We have four boys who needed space to run and play and we wanted a little property where they wouldn’t bother the neighbors with their scooters, mopeds, bikes and overall noise. It was a very enlightening process. I was shocked at how some people keep their houses, especially when their homes were for sell.

We could hardly find the floor to walk on in a couple of the houses, and these were gorgeous, new, expensive homes. I remember one home in particularly, where I think the parents gave each child a can of paint and looked the other way. One wall started in one color, another unfinished in another with no continuity or flow to the home, the design, the paint or especially the furniture, when you could see it. We had to keep reminding ourselves we weren’t buying the homes furnished, but it was difficult to see the forest for the trees.

On the other hand, we saw homes that didn’t have as stunning a floor plan, as many details in the design or as much square footage, but they were clean and inviting and beautifully furnished. So rich and luscious. We again had to remind ourselves that these furnishing didn’t come with the house. We just had to stick to floor plans and property. It was difficult.

We did notice that furniture in Tom’s River varied greatly as to quality, design and continuity. Some people just have a flare for decorating. A large and well laid out house can look cheap and simple home done right can be stunning and classy with the right furniture.
